I’m excited about becoming an amateur gardener. Last week I put in an order for 20 sourwoods and 6 red maples. When they come in, I will plant trees for the first time in my life. I plan to put the sourwoods on the hillside below our new lodges. Sourwoods don’t get nearly as big as the white oaks and hickory trees there now that could easily take out a building if things went wrong. But, what excites me the most about sourwoods (even more than their small threat of damage) is that, in the fall, their leaves turn a deep red. Imagine looking out over the hill and seeing all that red. I know I’m looking forward to it.
